It depends on how much time you have on your hands and how easily you can practice either language. german is closer to english than japanese. you therefore already have a head start in the language.. The most popular languages to study in the usa are spanish, french, american sign language (asl), german, italian, japanese, which language should i learn?. I already started studying japanese and fell in love with their culture and language. i've been studying a bit and know a few basics, just no kanji yet.. I am enrolling into a new school in australia. i am 15 years old and i know french already. i will be learning french as well as either german or japanese as my electives.. Learning asian languages such as mandarin chinese or japanese continue to be on a huge growth curve, with many foreigners trying to decide how to select one or the other..
